You will often hear me say “do what you can with the time that you have”

I believe this to be 100% true. There is no point worry about not having enough time to do everything that you want to do. With a little planning and some serious discipline you can achieve so much.


Make sure that wanting more time doesn’t allow you to forget what you already have.


If you are in full time employment and you are running your business on the side, I can understand why you might feel like you don’t have enough time. On top of the full time job, there is the house to look after, the dog to walk, people to feed and perhaps kids to run around to clubs and put to bed.


Be realistic, you know that your time to work on your business is going to be seriously limited but that’s fine. At the start of the week either Sunday or Monday work out what you need to achieve that week. What are the most important things that need to be done by the end of the week?


How many times per week are you going to be able to sit down and do work? (even if it is for 30 minutes at a time) If you know what you need to do or work on, 30 minutes can be plenty of time to get things done.


If you are still in full time employment and working on your business in your spare time then you need to do some serious planning. On a Sunday or Monday take time to work out what your goals or intentions for the week ahead are. Then break the goals or intentions down into tasks. If you only have half an hour on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday work out what the most important task are ensure that you are able to achieve them in the time that you have.


There is no point setting yourself the goal of creating a new website for the week if you only have 1.5 hours. Instead you could set yourself the tasks of writing your about page, contact page and home page. Which is doable in 1.5 hours. Then the next week you can set yourself the task of deciding what photos need to go on the website and crafting a contact form/page. This will not only help you get more done but it will be less overwhelming and will stop procrastinating.


You do need to be disciplined to run a business so if you have set yourself certain times and days to work on your business for that week, stick to them. If you want your business to move forward then you have to be constantly working on it. There is no overnight success (unfortunately). If you find yourself lacking motivation talk to a business friend, listen to a podcast, read a self development book, go for a walk or do something that makes you happy, if that’s dancing around the living room to the Spice Girls then go for it.


Change your mindset

Wishing that you had more time isn’t going to achieve anything, it won’t get you more time and it won’t change anything for the good. Wishing for more time will put you into a negative mindset and if you start really believing that you don’t have enough time, you won’t. Yes, it’s that simple.
Instead do the above, work out what time you have and what you will be able to do in that time and believe that you can do it.
