  • Things I tried to romanticise my business this week… that didn’t work 😅

A proper sit-down restaurant lunch. Instead of just grabbing a sandwich I thought having lunch at a nice restaurant would feel lovely.

What I didn’t know was that it was Bristol University open day. It was packed. I was overstimulated.

Lunch in the garden. It was sunny, my blueberries were in a bowl and I was feeling very romanticised business woman. Then the wind came. The blueberries did not survive. The dogs, however, had a great snack.

Worked at a coworking space. My vision: write my Substack, batch content, feel inspired.

The reality was that it was boiling hot and so loud I couldn’t think. As a peri-menopausal ADHDer, that is not the environment where the magic happens.

But romanticising your business doesn’t always go to plan… and that’s kind of the whole point.

It isn’t about perfection. It’s about intention.

The fact that I’m still trying to make my business feel good, even when the wind steals my blueberries, even when the restaurant is chaos, even when the coworking space is the opposite of peaceful, that IS romanticising your business.

Trying counts.

  • Here’s what romanticising your business isn’t.

It’s not about aesthetics, you can be into heavy metal and still romanticise your business.

It’s also not a 6 step morning routine where you have to wake up at 5am and pretend everything is fine when it isn’t.
Romanticising your business is the conscious choice to notice, feel and find meaning in what you do, how you do it and who you work with.

It means that you truly care about your clients rather than just focusing on delivery and treating them like a number or how much money you made from them.

It’s about having a community where people feel like they belong and not just like a subscriber or one of many.

Maybe it’s choosing storytelling in your marketing rather than jumping on trends that aren’t connected to your business.

So instead of thinking that you are behind or aren’t good enough, you actually start to experience where you are now and what you have already achieved.

And I think more business owners deserve this.

Love you. Mean it.

  • For years, I would finish my working day and feel like I had just got through another one.
There wasn’t anything wrong with my business. I really enjoyed it, the lovely clients, the opportunities and the content I created.
But it felt like I was on a treadmill, waiting for some future version of success to make it feel worthwhile.
I was hitting 10k months, I even had 10k weeks and I still felt flat.
Romanticising my business changed that.
Not dramatically. I didn’t overhaul anything.I just started paying attention differently, noticing things I had taken for granted and actually caring about them.
I stopped waiting for something to arrive and started noticing where I already was.
Now my days feel different, not in a perfect Instagram highlight way but in a way where I feel better about myself and I’ve found more joy in work I already loved.
In a world that glamourises hustle and makes you feel like just a number in someone else’s game, this practice gave me my business back.
If that’s something you want more of, follow along as I start talking about this more.

Love you. Mean it.
